What is the Global Textiles Policy Forum?
The GTPF seeks to address the need for global policy coordination outlined by various actors including UNEP’s report, Sustainability and Circularity in the Textile Value Chain – A global roadmap, by providing a platform for governments and textile industry associations from around the world to 1) meet, discuss and agree on an ambitious sustainability pathway for the industry and the global policy framework(s) needed to support this; 2) raise and amplify supply chain voices and increase capacity building towards the agreed pathway and 3) spread the experiences and likely impact of the EU Textiles Strategy outside of the EU.
Launched at The Global Fashion Summit: Copenhagen Edition 2023
The GTPF was launched at the Global Fashion Summit in 2023. GFA’s Public Affairs Director, María Luisa Martínez Díez, together with Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Magnus Heunicke, Danish Minister of Environment, and HE Mr. A.K.M. Shahidul Karim, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Denmark, presented the initiative on stage.
Governance, KPIs and other key strategic points were discussed during a first kick off roundtable at the Global Fashion Summit. The roundtable, co-moderated by Lars Fogh Mortensen (European Environment Agency) and Christian Hudson (GIZ/ UN CEFACT), gathered industry associations and government representatives interested in exploring the concept further.
Participating organisations included the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German Federal Ministry for economic Cooperation and Development, United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP), The UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion, the European Commission, the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX), the International Apparel Federation (IAF), the Sustainable Textile of the Asian Region (STAR) and the European Fashion Alliance (EFA).
